A BENCHMARK OF QUALITY AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE

“We just received our final drop of the stunning 2019 Tenuta San Guido Le Difese, aka ‘Baby Sassicaia’ as well as an additional allocation of the 98 point (WE) 2018 Sassicaia ($249.99). It has been over ten years since Jim, our French wine buyer, and I first discovered Le Difese at Tenuta San Guido and begged them to import it to the U.S. The Wine House was the first to have the wine in the market and, looking back, the price is lower today than that 2008 vintage we brought in, and the quality far exceeds all previous vintages. The 2019 vintage is outstanding, comparable to 2010.

This is an astounding Super Tuscan, equal to those that are in the $40-$50 per bottle range from one of Tuscany’s top producers, and our price is the best in the country, only $24.99! This is our final drop of Le Difese, one of Italy’s most sought-after wines from one of the country's most important wineries. Le Difese is now harder to find than Sassicaia so stock up before it's gone! With the holidays upon us, it is the perfect house wine and is super gift friendly. Drink well and stay healthy. – Lance Montalto, The Wine House

Release Price: $40

Best price in the country!

92 Points: “Made with 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Sangiovese, this has enticing aromas of cassis, black tea, violet and wild herbs. Savory and elegantly structured, the medium-bodied palate shows ripe blackberry, star anise and a hint of coffee bean framed in lithe, polished tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced. Drink through 2025.” – Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast (July 2021)

92 Points: “Very attractive cherry and dark berry aromas follow through to a medium body with medium round tannins, fresh acidity and a clean, fruity finish. The second wine of Sassicaia. So delicious now, but can age.” – James Suckling (November 2021)

FROM THE IMPORTER

HARVEST NOTE
At the end of a mild and dry autumn, temperatures from January were often rigid and the cold was made even more intense by the strong north winds. The main feature of the winter was the considerable lack of rain which, except for some showers in February, were almost absent for the rest of the period until, bud break. Since mid-March, the beautiful sunny days and the consistent increase in temperatures anticipated the budding. However, in April temperatures dropped again and the long-awaited rains arrived. Thanks to these spring rains, the water situation of the subsoils normalized. Two short hailstorms during two days of April thinned the shoots and slightly reduced the amount of production, especially on the most forward plants. The continuation of spring was somewhat unusual, characterized by low temperatures and consistent rains, with winds from the North. A climatic condition that has involved agronomists a lot and that has conditioned the vegetation by delaying growth. The flowering phase took place in May in good conditions and no winds, subsequently, there was an excellent fruit set which took place regularly. Summer started in mid-June, with mild temperatures, sunny days and intense ventilation.

TASTING NOTE
Bright red with purple nuances. Crisp acidity and pleasant palate of every day wine drinking, with juicy red fruits . A very good wine that is meant to be enjoyed young.

FOOD PAIRING
Pair with grilled steak or steak salad, hamburgers and other casual but flavorful beef dishes. Has good acidity to compliment marinara and bolognese sauces.
