WINE HOUSE CLASSES FOR ALL LEVELS!

The Wine House is now offering multiple levels of WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust) courses, including the NEW WSET Level 1 Award in Spirits. Registration has closed for the three online classes that begin on Monday, February 22 (WSET Level 1 Award in Sake, WSET Level 1 Award in Wines and French Wine Scholar Certificate course), but we are offering the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines again in April. If you wish to participate in the Sake Tasting Webinar on Tuesday, February 23, you may purchase the 3 Bottle Sake Sampler + Webinar. All courses have been adapted to use technology in the educational process to ensure student and instructor safety. Please see below for each course's details (online modules, course structure, instructors, whether wines are included or optional, how exams are administered, etc.), as each course is structured differently.

We are also delighted to announce a new Virtual Tasting with Emanuel Tres Winemaker Chris Keller on Wednesday, March 24!

As noted in Food & Wine, the Wine House was named one of ten of the “World’s Best Wine Shops.” In addition to being described as a “wine geek’s dream destination” with modest markups and excellent small-production offerings, we were noted for having “an impressive lineup of classes.” We are delighted to be able to offer our class lineup again. Some of the courses will be instructed by Monica Marin, Director of Education here at The Wine House, who was named 2019 French Wine Scholar (FWS) Instructor of the Year by the Wine Scholar Guild and is one of ten educators worldwide who was nominated by the WSET as an Educator of the Year for 2019!

Virtual Tasting with Emanuel Tres Winemaker Chris Keller
Wednesday, March 24
6:00 to 7:00PM
$75
Join us for an exclusive Wine House virtual tasting with Chris Keller, winemaker of Emanuel Tres! During this casual, fun and informative hour-long virtual tasting, Keller will discuss three of his Santa Barbara County Spanish-style wines. Made from sustainable or biodynamic vineyards on California’s Central Coast, Keller’s wines are terroir driven with classic “old world” character.

A long-time sommelier who’s responsible for some of LA’s best restaurant lists, including Tar & Roses, Joe’s Restaurant, and Bar Pintxo, Keller draws on the wines of his favorite wine region, Spain. His wines, named after the three Emanuels in his life – his grandfather, uncle and brother – are made with minimal intervention, no new oak, using ambient yeast and are lower alcohol than many other California wines – perfect for pairing with many foods. Emanuel Tres wines are well-balanced and have a nice acidity which positions them to age extremely well.

The tasting will feature three wines. The first two are included in the price; the third can be purchased for $13.99, a $10 discount off our regular price. (Note: discount will be manually applied when order is processed.)
- 2014 Emanuel Tres Blanco Reserva Santa Ynez Valley (Blend of Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Sauvignon, $24.99, included)
- 2013 Emanuel Tres Alto Secredo Santa Ynez Valley (Blend of Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault, Carignane, $24.99, included)
- 2014 Emanuel Tres Cinsault Camp 4 Vineyards Santa Ynez Valley (Cinsault, $23.99, additional $13.99)

The wines for this tasting can be picked up curbside or shipped for an additional fee.
You can do this tasting solo or share the bottles in a group tasting with your “pod” (for one fee). Participants will receive the link to the virtual tasting via email prior to the tasting.

Cancellations must be received at least 48 hours before start time for a refund or transfer to another class or event. No cancellations after wines are picked up or shipped.

The Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 2 Award in Wines course is intended as vocational training in product knowledge for those employed in the drinks industry but who have little previous knowledge of the broad range of alcoholic beverages available. The qualification is suitable wherever a good level of product knowledge is required to underpin job skills and competencies. The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines course is also appropriate for those not employed in the drinks industry but who want a serious education in wine and wish to broaden their knowledge in a structured way.

The course is based around a 5-week, 6-module online program with a recommendation of 6 hours study per week to cover the online activities and read the relevant chapters in the textbook (30 hours total for the course). Regular access and participation in the course online activities is essential for this mode of study. This course includes a 6-wine tasting kit and a live webinar tasting led by Monica Marin, FWS/DWS, and nominee for WSET Educator of the Year 2019.

The online course structure allows the student to work ahead or catch up on the activities and forums. There are no set times to log into the course as there are no live chats or webinars, except for the tasting webinar (Wednesday, March 31 at 6:30PM, which will be recorded for students who can’t attend live) and the exam on May 8.

Each module includes a series of independent activities to help students understand the differences between grape varieties and types and styles of wine.

Students are advised to taste a range of wines during their studies, and a wine tasting kit with six wines is included in the course fee. Upon registration, students will be advised of additional recommended wines to taste. Students can post their tasting notes in the Online Classroom for review by the educator.
