FURTHER YOUR WINE EDUCATION!

If one of your goals with more time at home is to learn about wine, we have all three levels of WSET (Wine and Spirits Education Trust) courses coming up over the next couple of months to help you expand your knowledge and understanding of wine. When Food & Wine magazine named The Wine House one of only ten of the “World’s Best Wine Shops,” they noted our “impressive lineup of classes.” We are proud to be an Approved Programme Provider of WSET courses and while in-store tastings as well as large fests and events have been canceled for the last several months, we can now offer the full lineup of WSET classes. WSET Level 1 Award in Wines and WSET Level 2 Award in Wines are both online, and our Level 2 course includes 6 wine samples and a guided tasting led by Monica Marin. Our WSET Level 3 Award in Wines course is being offered both IN PERSON (socially distanced) or as a WEBINAR. Both Level 3 courses include tasting over 60 wines. If you’ve been meaning to improve your knowledge about wine, we have the perfect class for you!

The Wine House is proud of our commitment to education and we are thrilled that Monica Marin, Director of Education here at The Wine House, is one of just ten educators worldwide nominated by the WSET as Educator of the Year for 2019! Learn about wine with one of the world's top educators.

Also, if you would like a guided wine tasting for your group, we can help! We have a terrific team of knowledgeable and engaging educators who can lead a Zoom meeting or webinar for you. Or we can help you put together a multi-bottle wine sampler pack for your own tasting. Contact wine@winehouse.com for more information.

This Level 1 Award in Wines is a 4-week, 7 module online learning program with educator support available during the course. The course modules should be followed in order, but students are free to complete the modules at their own pace during this 4-week window. The course material should take about 6 hours in total to complete, plus revision time. Regular access and participation in the course online activities is essential for this mode of study.

The course prepares the student for WSET qualifications and they are guided by a WSET online educator. Upon registration, students will be advised of required and recommended wines to taste. Students can post their tasting notes in the Online Classroom for review by the educator.

Online study materials will be sent to the student’s email address between November 2 and November 8 by the WSET. Students will be automatically registered to take the in-person socially distanced exam on Sunday, December 6, 2020.

CANCELLATIONS: Because student information will be submitted to the WSET on Sunday, November 1, cancellations are only accepted for this class until October 31, and all bookings are final after that. There can be no refunds after the student’s registration is submitted to the WSET.

The Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 2 Award in Wines course is intended as vocational training in product knowledge for those employed in the drinks industry but who have little previous knowledge of the broad range of alcoholic beverages available. The qualification is suitable wherever a good level of product knowledge is required to underpin job skills and competencies. The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines course is also appropriate for those not employed in the drinks industry but who want a serious education in wine and wish to broaden their knowledge in a structured way.

The course is based around a 5-week, 6-module online program with a recommendation of 6 hours study per week to cover the online activities and read the relevant chapters in the textbook (30 hours total for the course). Regular access and participation in the course online activities is essential for this mode of study. This course includes a 6-wine tasting kit and a live webinar tasting led by Monica Marin, FWS/DWS, and nominee for WSET Educator of the Year 2019.

The online course structure allows the student to work ahead or catch up on the activities and forums. There are no set times to log into the course as there are no live chats or webinars, except for the tasting webinar (Wednesday, October 21 at 6:30PM, which will be recorded for students who can’t attend live) and the exam on 12/5.

The course prepares the student for our qualification and they are guided by a WSET educator. The student can contact the educator any time for the duration of the scheduled course, should they have any questions. Each module includes a series of independent activities to help students understand wine label terminology and recognize the styles produced by the main grape varieties in key wine regions.

Students are advised to taste a range of wines during their studies. The kit with 6 wine tasting samples and a live webinar are included in the course price. Additional recommended wines to be tasted can be found in the course specification. Students can post their tasting notes in the Online Classroom for review by the online educator.

CANCELLATIONS: Because student information will be submitted to the WSET on Sunday, October 11, cancellations are only accepted for this class until October 10, and all bookings are final after that. There can be no refunds after the student’s registration is submitted to the WSET.

The WSET recommends that students complete at least 56 hours of personal study outside the classroom hours during their course of study. The WSET Level 3 Award in Wines is a prerequisite for students wishing to progress to the Level 4 Diploma Course. Students cannot enroll in a Diploma course until they have passed the Level 3 Course.
