100 POINTS - #1 WINE OF THE YEAR!

"We have now officially entered the Wine Awards Season. Most wine publications do a top 100, and there is always the hunt for the coveted #1 Wine of the Year. We are thrilled that our 2015 Brunello Offer #3 wine was just named (drumroll, please) as James Suckling’s #1 wine pick of 2019! It's the 100 point 2015 Siro Pacenti Vecchie Vigne Brunello di Montalcino and our price is under $100! This wine is a future and will not be available until May of 2020, just in time for the next holiday season. All joking aside, this is a remarkable bottle of wine, from a vintage that is considered by many to be one of the best ever.

In April 2018, I spent a good half-day at Siro Pacenti. Giancarlo Pacenti is one of the most progressive winemakers of Brunello di Montalcino. Pacenti, who took over his family’s estate in 1988, ages his wines entirely in barrique, with the aim of making clean, rich and intense wines which typically show great fragrance, silkiness, and relatively soft tannins. His Vecchia Vigne comes from a vineyard whose vines are over 35 years old, and the wine and is aged in French oak for two years. The 2015 is a tremendous achievement for Pacenti and the fact that they are able to keep the cost relatively equal to their 2010 vintage is impressive. Please note that we also have the 96 point classic label 2015 Siro Pacenti Brunello Pelagrilli for under $52. These are two remarkable Brunellos and among the best values of the vintage. The Wine House is one of the few retailers in the country with these wines and we have the best prices.

ABOUT THE 2015 BRUNELLO VINTAGE: To say that I’m thrilled about our 2015 Brunello offers is a huge understatement! 2015 was a stupendous vintage across Italy, and the Super Tuscans that were released over the past few years were some of the best ever. Now it is time for Tuscany’s crown jewels – Brunellos – to take center stage! The excitement about this vintage has been building for a while, and the early press is staggering, with James Suckling calling it a ‘fairy-tale vintage’ and a ‘historical year for Brunello di Montalcino that nobody should miss.’ Mother Nature delivered a perfect growing season, and the producers were ready for it! Many producers feel these are their best wines ever, with terrific depth and balance. We are just getting started with our offers; there will be many more wines to come over the next year. We will eventually get every Brunello you have come to love, and then some! Pricing has stayed relatively close to those of the past five vintages, making the 2015 Brunellos some of the greatest values in the wine world. As always, I suggest that you purchase those Brunellos you already know and love; they will be the finest example of Brunello that the estate has produced. Check our website for other 2015 Brunellos... and keep checking, because we’re getting new offers every week!" – Lance Montalto, The Wine House

100 Points #1 Wine of the Year: "This is very intense on the nose with blue fruit, cool stones, brambleberries and blackberries. Wet earth, too. Full-bodied and extremely dense and powerful with a super center palate of fruit and ripe yet compact tannins. Lightly chewy and expressive. Superb transparency and integration. Goes on for minutes. One of the best Brunellos I have tasted in my career. Try after 2021, but already amazing." – James Suckling (November 2019)
