"Ever since my first visit to Bordeaux back in 2001, when I was 28 years old, to taste the 2000 vintage out of barrel, I fell madly in love with Chateau du Tertre. Mainly because after tasting all the great Chateau wines from the Margaux Appellation, I was so amazed how du Tertre ‘held its own’ with wines from this appellation that were 3 to 4 times its price! This left a lasting impression on me and it’s a wine that I purchase every single vintage, not only for the store, but personally as well, because they still consistently over deliver year after year! Huge kudos to the Chateau and Managing Director Alexander Van Beek (who also manages Chateau Giscours). Thank you for doing what you do so incredibly well; the new owners for Chateau du Tertre will benefit from the investments and improvements you oversaw.

Over two decades after that first trip to Bordeaux, I’m thrilled to have the 94 point 2019 Chateau du Tertre Margaux with its 'beautiful purity of fruit,' that is 'textured and polished,' according to James Suckling. Jeb Dunnuck calls it a 'beautiful Margaux,' and gushes that 'it's certainly the finest wine I've tasted from this domaine. It's going to evolve nicely over the coming two decades.' This classified Bordeaux is medium-to-full bodied with classic notes of cassis, flowers, leather, tobacco, and licorice, as well as those gorgeous soft tannins that are a hallmark of Margaux wines. This beautiful Margaux offers awesome notes of black raspberries, crushed flowers, sandalwood, spice, and a touch of bouquet garni. With medium to full-bodied richness, polished tannins, and a great finish, it's certainly the finest wine I've tasted from this domaine. It's going to evolve nicely over the coming two decades. ABOUT CHATEAU DU TERTRE

Château du Tertre is located on one of the highest and most beautiful gravelly rises in the Margaux appellation. Like most Bordeaux houses, it has a long and storied history, with several changes in ownership over the centuries. It was created in the 18th century by an important Irish négociant, Pierre Mitchell, who had fallen in love with the Bordeaux region and its wines. The founder of the first glassworks in Bordeaux, this refined, innovative man realized one of his fondest dreams by establishing his own fine wine estate.

Other famous families followed in his footsteps: the de Brezets and Vallandés, as well as the Koenigswarters, rich bankers close to Emperor Napoleon III. The quality of the wine was such that it was included among the great growths of Margaux in the 1855 classification.

Éric Albada Jelgersma acquired the estate in 1997. Thanks to major investments and careful management, Château du Tertre now expresses its intrinsically elegant personality year after year.

Most recently, in March 2021, the estate changed hands and will be managed by the Helfich family of Alsace.
