ABOUT THE INSTITUTE OF MASTERS OF WINE
Master of Wine (MW) is the most prestigious title in the world of wine. What started more than sixty years ago as a qualification for the UK wine trade is now held by a
global family of 343 Masters of Wine. The Membership encompasses winemakers, buyers, shippers, business owners, retailers, academics, sommeliers, wine educators, writers, journalists and more.
Members produce award-winning wines, books, films, journalism, and television programs. Masters of Wine are also often asked to judge wine competitions all over the world; to lecture at wine courses; to lead tastings; to sample and assess some of the world's finest private cellars. Masters of Wine currently advise governments and heads of state worldwide, as well as hotels, airlines, and other institutions.
Institute of Masters of Wine tastings and events are principally provided as professional development opportunities for Masters of Wine, students of the Institute and other members of the wine trade. However, some Institute events, such as this Inaugural Syrah Tasting, now offer a limited number of places for members of the
public with an interest in fine wine.
