'EASY TO DRINK' PINOT GRIS!

“We love it when our distributors stop by with a closeout wine that many of our staff really enjoy! We don't get many offers like this, and when we do, they are too good to pass up. If you are looking for a delicious and affordable white wine, we have it today! The 91 point 2018 Lawson's Dry Hills Reserve Pinot Gris Marlborough is only $8.99 when you buy 3 or more! James Suckling praises its ‘smooth and elegant texture’ and Joe Czerwinski of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate notes that it is ‘silky-textured, smooth and easy to drink with a bright, citrusy finish.’

The Marlborough region of the southern island of New Zealand has longer, cooler growing conditions than the northern island, which promotes stronger, more vibrant fruit flavors and higher acid levels in the grapes. NZ Pinot Gris grown in these cooler, maritime-influenced climes produce 'more phenolic, Alsatian-inspired, waxy textured [Pinot Gris] wines imbued with great complexity and nuance,' says Neal Martin of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.

Only 6% of all New Zealand wine production is Pinot Gris; Sauvignon Blanc is the main variety produced, at a whopping 78%. If you are a fan of NZ Sauvignon Blancs, I suggest you give this Lawson's Dry Hills Reserve Pinot Gris a try! It's packed with tropical aromas, and mouthwatering flavors of honeysuckle, lemon, Golden Delicious apples, and hints of cinnamon and lime zest. It's got a silky texture, and creamy richness that make it a great wine to pair with spicy dishes like Thai food, and other light fare. It's vegan-friendly and certified sustainable and best of all, it's an absolute bargain! Buy a case or two and enjoy!”– Glen Knight, The Wine House

FROM THE WINERY

Tasting Notes
Light straw in colour with aromas of white peach, tinned pears and freshly-baked apple pie. This is a dry wine but with a soft and luscious mouthfeel, nice weight and a touch of acidity on the finish that provides lovely balance. This wine sits very high on the
drinkability scale!

Vineyards and viticulture
A blend of our Waihopai Valley vineyard (70%) and the adjacent Barnsley Block. 2/15 clone, cane-pruned, shoot-thinned followed by successive fruit thinning to reduce crop level and ensure uniformity of ripeness. Soil is windblown loess over a clay pan. The clay soils play an important part by contributing volume and mouthfeel to the wine.

Winemaking
2018 was a relatively warm season that meant we picked early, harvesting both blocks on the 26th of March. The grapes were gently pressed and most of the free-run juice was inoculated with cultured yeast in tank. A small portion was fermented with wild
yeasts (11%) while the pressings were fermented with wild yeasts in old French barriques (5%). Post-ferment, the wine was left to rest on lees for several months before the free-run and pressing portions were blended, left to marry and then bottled here at the winery.

100% Pinot Gris, Alc 13%, pH 3.45, TA 5.2, RS 5g/l, Brix 22
Vegan-friendly

Food Match

Spicy foods, especially Thai flavours, also pates and terrines, salmon, chicken and pork dishes. Scallops with bacon are great with this wine too!
