Winemaker Notes
It is a dark red color with a purple hue. On the nose, this wine has a mixture of red fruit and hay aromas along with hints of leather or game. To the palate it is smooth and has flavors of cherry, red current and liquorice. It also has animal aromas.
This wine comes from a blend of Niellucio, Sciacarello, Syrah, and Grenache. Maceration time, during which temperatures are constantly checked, is
short, giving the wine fruit and lightness. It is matured for six months in a stainless steel vat, before bottling. It is to be enjoyed young.
A blend of 35% Niellucciu, 30% Grenache, 15% Sciaccarellu, 15% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre.
History of Domaine Maestracci
The upper REGINU Valley has always been considered excellent soil for wine production. The vineyard that was planted on the ancient moraine from Monte Grossu (1900 meters), forming a terrace between two thalwegs, used to produce wines with a reputation that
extended beyond the area.
The history of the family estate starts with the purchase in 1893 by Pierre-Paul Thomasini. The farm was the oil mill locally know a ‘fabrique’, Built around 1850. It was used for kneading and pressing olives bought to produce olive oil. At the end of the 19th century the estate was comprised of vines and olive trees. From 1945 onwards Rodger Maestracci enlarged the estate by making different purchaces and from 1973 began having planted what was to become the precent day vineyard. The estate has been run since 1981 by Dominique and Michel Raoust. Roger’s daughter and son in-law.
For over a century, the vine has perpetuated our family’s love for the land and for wine.
