DYNAMITE NEW WINES FROM PREMIER OREGON PRODUCER

Domaine Drouhin adds a new group of wines for us to enjoy after they purchased the Roserock Vineyard in Eola-Amity Hills in 2013. Winemaker Véronique Drouhin had already been familiar with this excellent vineyard, since they had purchased the fruit for other projects. The vineyard was planted between 2004 and 2006, 122 acres in total. I was lucky to be one of the first to try these new releases this past April at the Oregon Wine Auction. The vineyard is close to some of my favorite wineries, Bethel Heights, Cristom, Brooks, Evening Land, and Zena Crown. I thought all three of these wines were outstanding, and critics have given them all high praise as well.” – Glen Knight, Wine House

The 2014 vintage is already considered a classic Oregon vintage. A long, warm growing season and a relaxed, bountiful harvest has given us Pinot Noir with lovely color, beautiful fruit-forward character, excellent balance and the structure to age well, as well as Chardonnay with freshness, balance and depth. It is a perfect way to debut Roserock.

“A very pretty texture to this wine with cream and dried apples in addition to hints of lemons and limes. A medium to full body and soft yet bright acidity. Love this fabulous wine. Don't miss it.” - James Suckling, November 2016

FROM THE PRODUCER

Our Roserock Chardonnay brings together the estate’s three Chardonnay blocks, which are handpicked and sorted. The Chardonnay is pressed immediately, and sent in equal parts to tank and barrel. Once malolactic fermentation is complete, Véronique assembles the two portions into her final cuvée. Our 2014 Roserock Chardonnay was bottled in August, 2015.

Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: In the glass, our Chardonnay from Roserock has an intriguing, slightly golden tone. On the nose, there is a hint of pear, quince, ripe citron, honeysuckle and pine needle. On the palate, the wine is round and fresh, with only faint oak presence, and excellent acidity without tartness. There is structure, balance, great texture and an elegant mid-palate, leading to a long finish. It is a wine that will drink well for at least 3-5 years. – Véronique Drouhin

“This is the first vintage of this wine. Shows intensity and balanced and beautiful fruit. Medium-to full-bodied, silky and beautiful. A really velvety and round texture to this. Drink or hold.” - James Suckling, November 2016

“The 2014 Roserock Pinot Noir offers blackberry and briary scents on the nose with a touch of earthiness - well defined and quite vivacious in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with dusky blackberry and blueberry fruit. It exerts a gentle grip in the mouth and delivers white pepper sprinkled over the finish that is nicely detailed. This should drink well over the next 8-10 years and at this price, I would be loading up. Drink: 2018 - 2030” - Neal Martin, June 2016

FROM THE PRODUCER

Our Roserock Pinot Noir is a cuvée selection from the estate’s 35 blocks, which are handpicked, sorted and individually fermented. While Pinot Noirs from the Eola-Amity Hills are typically known for their structure and power, Véronique Drouhin emphasizes Roserock’s elegant and refined qualities, making for a delicious and ageworthy cuvée.

Winemaker’s Tasting Notes:
Our 2014 Roserock Pinot Noir has a lovely, deep red color. The nose is floral, spicy and beautiful, with an intense, savory, character. On the palate, there are notes of dark berry preserves, a touch of caramel, black cherry, dried flowers, and tilled earth. There is clear structure and balance, with good mouth weight and a long finish. I expect that we will be enjoying this wine for 7-10 years, or more, but it offers a lot now. – Véronique Drouhin

2014 Roserock by Drouhin Pinot Noir Zephirine Eola-Amity Hills
96 Points James Suckling
$54.99
“A juicy and intense wine with with lots of plum, chocolate and cedar undertones. Full-bodied and velvety. Pretty, gorgeous, racy and just so fine. Love the fruit and texture. Drink now.” - James Suckling, November 2016

FROM THE PRODUCER

The Zéphirine Pinot Noir is a barrel selection cuvée from the Roserock vineyard, and is a reference expression of the site. Zéphirine conveys winemaker Véronique Drouhin’s dedication to elegance and finesse, and will age meaningfully for years to come. The name refers to the Zéphirine Drouhin variety of climbing rose, which is known for its fragrance and beauty.

Winemaker’s Tasting Notes: Zéphirine has a deep, rosewood color. On the nose, there is clear energy, and layers upon layers of violets, delicate roses, small berries and brush. On the palate, there is a wealth of blue and black fruit flavors balanced by excellent structure and fine tannins. As a whole, Zéphirine exudes complexity and refinement, and leads to a very long, satisfying finish. It will be lovely to experience as it ages over the next 8-10 years or more. – Véronique Drouhin

ABOUT ROSEROCK

Drouhin Oregon Roserock is the newest chapter in the Drouhin story, extending from Burgundy’s Côte d’Or and Chablis, to the Dundee Hills of Oregon, and now Oregon’s Eola-Amity Hills. Drouhin Oregon Roserock continues a four-generation story that began in 1880 when Joseph Drouhin moved from Chablis to Beaune, in the heart of Burgundy. The wines were crafted with the usual Drouhin techniques: marrying balance, harmony, finesse and character.

Roserock is an extraordinary vineyard at the southern tip of the Eola-Amity Hills, in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Ancient volcanic soils, an ideal elevation range and the unique cooling effect of the Van Duzer corridor produce classic cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Roserock is LIVE-certified sustainable.
