WORLD-CLASS CHARDONNAY WITH AN EXQUISITE 4-COURSE DINNER FOR ONLY $135!

“Last month my dad and I travelled to New Zealand and visited many outstanding producers. One that stood out was Kumeu River Wines, and we are thrilled to welcome Paul Brajkovich, their Sales & Marketing Director for a spectacular four-course wine dinner featuring their critically acclaimed wines in Upstairs 2. The Brajkovichs, owners of the Kumeu River Winery, are nationally recognized as a founding family of the New Zealand wine industry, and the current generation are internationally recognized as producing world class Chardonnay. Kumeu River Chardonnays have been named to The Wine Advocate's 50 Best New Releases from 2015 and Wine Spectator's Top 100 list.

A couple of years ago, a UK merchant organized a blind tasting that pitted Kumeu River’s Chardonnays against a flight of premier cru and village Burgundies of the same vintage from leading producers including Leflaive, Lafon, Sauzet, Drouhin, Girardin and Niellon. The results of the blind tasting were unexpected - with Kumeu River was the clear winner in three of the four flights, and tied for first in another. Read about this tasting in Decanter magazine here.

Two courses of our dinner will pair library releases of Kumeu River's elegant Burgundian-style vineyard-designated Chardonnays next to current releases so that guests can experience the evolution of these sublime wines. This is a winery dinner you won’t want to miss!” – Glen Knight, Wine House

For more about the blind tasting, read British Wine Journalist Jancis Robinson’s description of the tasting in her article “Top Kiwi v White Burgundy”:

“Last week I was presented with proof of my theory that the white wine grape of which New Zealanders should be most proud is not Sauvignon Blanc but Chardonnay.”

“However, a recent blind tasting of Kumeu River Chardonnays back to 2007 comparing them with some of their finest white burgundy equivalents suggests that, at least from this top producer outside Auckland, New Zealand Chardonnays can more than hold their own. And as for value, they won hands down, costing only a fraction of the wines they trounced.”

The Kumeu River wines shone out because they were generally better made and more refined and sophisticated.
