SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY SPECIALS

"Many of you know that the Saturday after Thanksgiving is known as ‘Small Business Saturday.’ The Wine House is an independent, family-owned and run business, and the store has been in Los Angeles for over 40 years! We do our best to bring you a wide range of wines, spirits, and beers – from great deals to boutique finds. We love to highlight wines that you won’t find in supermarkets … something that makes a small business like ours stand out!

We are having a 48-hour sale on three wines that we love and recommend highly a Pinot Noir from California, a Chablis from France, and a Grenache blend from Spain. Each one is from a family-owned producer, which is something we are proud to promote at The Wine House!

We're happy to be offering these wines to you at special pricing for Small Business Saturday! And we thank you for your business!" Jim Knight, The Wine House

FROM THE WINERY

We love this wine and it is always one of our most popular, sought-after wines. From the organically farmed Vecino Vineyard, this is a 50/50 blend of Pommard and Dijon 115 clones. 70% whole cluster. Each year the names changes, though the wine is fairly consistent. This year it is called The Center of Gravity.

FROM THE IMPORTER

In only a short time, Patrick Piuze has gone from managing a wine bar in his native Québec to becoming one of Chablis’ most prominent rising stars. In 2008, after working for Olivier Leflaive, Verget and Domaine Jean-Marc Brocard, Patrick started his own micro-négoce. Sourcing 20 hectares of old-vine fruit from respected growers throughout Chablis, he crafts over 20 cuvees, including grand cru, premier cru, single-village wines, a Petit Chablis sourced from a maximum of two parcels adjacent to grand cru vineyards, an Aligoté from Saint Bris, and a méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine from the Tonnerrois. He is one of the rare producers to identify the nuances from village to village within the general AOC Chablis and even distinguishes between microclimates in his two cuvées of grand cru Bougros. Patrick’s belief in long, natural fermentations allows him to create powerful yet graceful wines that, even in less ripe vintages, show a soft, penetrating texture. Lively, nervy, and pure, they also exhibit soft creamy textures, layered complexity, and the contagious vitality of its maker.

Tasting Note: Always the most immediately accessible of Patrick’s village Chablis, this bottling captures notes of delicate citrus, stone fruit and white flowers, wrapped in an unctuous texture filled with bright, energetic saline notes and racy acidity

94 Points: "The regional 2019 Les Terrasses Velles Vinyes was produced with a blend of grapes from 80 plots in eight villages from Priorat, 82% Garnacha with 17% Cariñena and 1% white grapes, a year unusually high in Garnacha and unusually low in Cariñena that suffered a lot from the heat. The destemmed and lightly crushed grapes fermented in concrete and oak vats with indigenous yeasts, and the wine matured in French oak barrels for 12 months. What happened here is that Cariñena was burned by a heat spike of 43 degrees Celsius on the 28th of June, and there was a wildfire in Montsant that perhaps could have warmed things up even more. I think there might be a change toward more Garnacha and elegance in the wines from Álvaro Palacios in Priorat, as this is brighter and less rustic than this wine used to be, more polished, perfumed and fine. The year of heat and drought. 101,600 bottles produced." – Luis Gutierrez, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (July 2021)

93 Points: "A solid Priorat with fine-grained tannins and mineral, berry and light spice undertones. Medium body. Fruity and focused finish. Drink or hold." – James Suckling (October 2021)

FROM THE IMPORTER

One of nine children born to the owners of Rioja’s respected Palacios Remondo, Álvaro studied enology in Bordeaux, while working under Jean-Pierre Moueix at Ch. Pétrus. He credits his tenure at Pétrus for much of his winemaking philosophy and for showing him "the importance of great wines."

Álvaro could have returned to the security of his family’s domaine. But instead, he was drawn to remote and seductive Priorat, 60 miles from Barcelona, which had been one of Spain’s important pre-Phylloxera wine regions. Beginning in the 12th Century, Carthusian monks had painstakingly terraced and cultivated this rugged landscape, and Álvaro believed that their ancient wisdom could be tapped to yield wines with the stature of Pétrus and Grange.

About Les Terrasses

While originally conceived of as a value wine, Les Terrasses has slowly evolved into Álvaro’s statement of what makes Priorat special. Drawing on 15+ years of study, Terrasses is sourced from many of the region’s steepest and oldest vineyards—many of them north-facing to avoid the intense afternoon sun. Today, Les Terrasses is today perhaps the single finest introduction to Priorat in the marketplace.
