SIP INTO FALL WITH THESE WINES

"Are you ready to try something different? Our friends at Arnot-Roberts have a couple of terrific ‘off the beaten path’ red wines that are very limited production: the 2019 Arnot-Roberts Trousseau and the 2019 Arnot-Roberts Gamay Noir. If you drink a lot of French wines, neither of these varieties are entirely new to you, but they are produced in minuscule amounts in California. Trousseau is a captivating red that is primarily grown in the Jura region of France, but one of the reasons young west coast winemakers are falling for it is because it ripens naturally at a much lower sugar level, producing a lower alcohol and very food friendly wine. While it is light in color, it’s intense and ‘packed with flavor.’

If you enjoy a good Beaujolais, you should enjoy this Gamay Noir because it is the same grape. This lively and exquisite wine is a joy to drink! Both are entirely enjoyable and perfect as we start enjoying fall dishes. We have very limited amounts of both of these wines so make sure to pick some up while you can!" – Glen Knight, The Wine House

2019 Arnot-Roberts Trousseau North Coast
$31.99
FROM THE WINERY

Our North Coast Appellation Trousseau is sourced from the three distinct vineyards; Luchsinger, Bohan Ranch and Bartolomei. The soil and weather in these sites are distinct from each other and as a result yield fruit with singular personalities. We harvest and ferment the sites on their own, without destemming and the resulting wines are aged separately in a mix of neutral French oak barrels and stainless steel. Blending takes place in the early spring and the wine is bottled without fining or filtration in early May. Trousseau is the thinnest skinned grape we work with and we appreciate this unique variety for its ability to make a wine that is light in color but packed with flavor. We feel that Trousseau is an extremely versatile wine that will pair well with a wide variety of foods and occasions.

FROM THE WINERY

Many of you will know that we have been working with Gamay from the Sierra Foothills since 2011 under the RPM label. RPM was a collaborative effort between us and our friend Rajat Parr to explore the nature of this variety grown in granitic soils at the Barsotti and Witters vineyards outside Placerville. 2015 was the final vintage for the RPM label and we are now thrilled to bring it into our lineup. Both vineyards for this wine are located at around 3000’ elevation and are harvested and fermented separately, then blended together to make the final wine. The grapes are brought into the winery, loaded into steel fermentation tanks and sealed up for several days to commence carbonic maceration allowing the berries to start the fermentation process from the inside out. This technique, used in many of our favorite producer’s cellars in Beaujolais, adds a spicy fruitiness that infuse freshness and energy in the resulting wines. Upon completion of primary fermentation the wine is transferred to a mix of neutral oak Foudre and stainless steel for aging before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

ABOUT ARNOT-ROBERTS

Arnot-Roberts was founded in Healdsburg in 2001 by childhood friends Duncan Arnot Meyers and Nathan Lee Roberts. Beginning with one barrel of wine made in their basement, the winery started small and grew slowly by sourcing grapes from some of the most remarkable vineyards in California. Duncan and Nathan grew up together in the Napa Valley and from an early age were immersed in the rhythm of agrarian life surrounded by the vineyards and winemaking of the early 1980’s. Both of their families, while not directly involved in winemaking, were deeply rooted in the community as chefs, coopers, teachers and attorneys in what, at the time, was a small up and coming wine region. After college, the duo followed their passion into the wine industry with Nathan joining his father as a cooper of oak wine barrels and Duncan pursuing winemaking in several renowned wineries in Napa and Sonoma counties.

The focus of Arnot-Roberts is to produce distinctive, site-driven wines that highlight the nature of the unique terroirs in which the grapes are grown. The journey to this end has led Duncan and Nathan to seek out vineyards throughout Northern California and now includes incredible sites in Napa Valley, Sonoma Coast, Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Rita Hills, Clearlake and Sierra Foothills. Single-vineyard wines are the core of the production as well as a few appellation bottlings that clearly speak of their individual upbringings. Some of the vineyards are old and dry-farmed, some are newer plantings but all are farmed and cared for by passionate and conscientious growers, which is paramount to the fundamental goal of Arnot-Roberts: producing the most honest and expressive wines possible.
