AMORE ROSSO

“I love Rosso di Montalcinos; they are among some of the best of the traditional Tuscan reds. The region of Montalcino is stunning, with a wine history that runs back centuries and has been producing brilliant Sangioveses far longer than most other regions. With historical greatness behind them, Rosso di Montalcinos have recently had outstanding success in the market. Rosso di Montalcinos often take a back seat to the more recognized Brunello, even though they can be some of the greatest wine finds in Tuscany. The 93 point 2018 Capanna Rosso di Montalcino is only $23.99 and is among one of the finest ever produced, as well as being among the highest ever reviewed.

Capanna is one of the oldest of the Montalcino producers whose name is historically recognizable, yet has flown under the radar for years. I am confident after the 2018 vintage Capanna Rosso, along with their 100 point 2016 Capanna Brunello, they will once again return to their place high atop the Montalcino pantheon.

I first tasted this Rosso di Montalcino a year ago February, while in Montalcino, and it was one of the two standouts of the vintage. There are highlights in 2018 but for price and style, this is a personal favorite, a traditional and classic Rosso di Montalcino. It took over a year to finally get the wine in stock and what we have now is all we are receiving. Like so many other wines, we have the best price in California and when it is gone, well you know. Drink well and stay healthy.” – Lance Montalto, The Wine House

Best price in California!
93 Points: Lively medium red. Pure, very refreshing aromas and flavors of raspberry, licorice and violet on the drop-dead gorgeous nose. ABOUT CAPANNA

The Capanna farm, owned by the Cencioni family since 1957, is situated in the Montosoli area, to the north of Montalcino. It was founded by Giuseppe Cencioni and, helped by his sons Benito and Franco, it was one of the first farms of the modern period of Brunello. They started bottling their own wines in the 1960's and after Brunello di Montalcino was granted DOC status in 1966, Giuseppe was one of the 25 founders of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino.
Production, initially only a few thousand bottles, then increased when new vineyards were planted. In 1975 they began exporting Brunello di Montalcino DOC – Capanna 1970 – to Germany and then new markets were reached in subsequent years: United States of America, Canada, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, Japan, Austria, Poland, Denmark and others (about 20 overall).
The Capanna farm is still family run from both a farming and winemaking viewpoint, furthermore, it is Amedeo Cencioni himself, Patrizio's son and representative of the fourth generation, who supervises the oenological and agronomic parts of the cellar.
