INSPIRE THE WORLD TO DREAM BIG

“Last summer we promoted this 95 point 2017 Clos de los Siete and it sold out within hours but the good news is that we were able to get more! Maybe you were able to buy a few bottles and then realized you should have bought more, or it was sold out before you had a chance to order... well, now you have another opportunity to get this great wine! It's made by famed vintner Michel Rolland who built his reputation on the right bank of Bordeaux, and now he has projects all over the world. Michel first visited Argentina in 1988 and fell in love with the rocky soils at the foot of the Andes, the clear air, and the warm days and cold nights; he knew it would be a perfect place to establish vineyards and make sensational wines. Along with other Bordelais winegrower friends, he established Clos de los Siete in the Uco Valley of Mendoza. The seven different vineyards are part of four distinct bodegas. All four bodegas contribute to the flagship Clos de los Siete wine, which is expertly blended by Michel. They planted more than half of the total area of the estate with Malbec, the obvious ‘king of all grape varieties’ in Argentina but, to add complexity to the blend, they also planted other classic Bordeaux varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah as well as some Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.

We are thrilled to get a third drop of this stunning wine - Wine Spectator designated it as a ‘Best Buy’ and James Suckling exclaimed ‘Wow! Best ever’. This beautiful red wine does not disappoint; it’s a big bold mouthful of black fruit with berries and chocolate notes begging for some good garlicky meat to accompany it. This is the sixteenth vintage of this wine and it just keeps getting better! Argentina is known for great ‘bang for the buck’ wines, and this is one of the best - 95 points and only $15.99! Be sure to stock up!” – Glen Knight, The Wine House

95 Points James Suckling
91 Points Wine Spectator (Smart Buy)
Release Price: $20
Wine House: $15.99
95 Points: “A very refined, creamy wine, showing blackberries and blueberries with chocolate and light hazelnut notes. Medium to full body. The fine tannins are polished and creamy and the beautiful, reserved finish goes on for a really long time. Wow! Best ever, because of its length and beauty. One for the palate or the cellar. Drink or hold.” – James Suckling (April 2020)

91 Points: “Deep, rich flavors of roasted cherry, plum tart and dried savory herbs are supported by firm acidity and tannins. Features a tensile frame, with slate accents midpalate. Dusty graphite notes show on the finish. Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2024.” – Kim Markus, Wine Spectator (June 2020)

FROM THE WINERY

Tasting notes: “Clos de Los Siete 2017 is deep red in appearance shot through with purple glints characteristic of Malbec. On the nose, its intense and complex aromatic expression delivers subtle notes of fruit and spice. On the palate, the delicate tannins are ripe and silky, and combine with appealing freshness. Well-balanced in structure, full-bodied and offering typical freshness, the wine showcases the charming, elegant style ever present in Clos de Los Siete.” Michel Rolland

2017, a great year despite low yields After a moderate winter - slightly drier with temperatures marginally warmer than average (the El Niño effect) - spring was dry and particularly cool with frost events which significantly impacted yields. The Malbec, which is particularly susceptible to coulure and millerandage, was the most affected by weather conditions. Harvesting went well. One to two weeks earlier than the norm, it followed a drier summer with moderate temperatures, despite a few warmer spells, which maintained the vineyard in excellent health. 2017 is consequently a low-volume vintage further to spring frosts, and drier, cooler weather than normal. However, on a positive note, the reduced yields have resulted in great concentration in the berries, intense aromas and lovely freshness overall.
