WILLAMETTE PINOT NOIR FROM EXCEPTIONAL 2014 VINTAGE!

“This past April, I traveled to Oregon for a special event: Willamette, The Pinot Noir Barrel Auction. The region's top winemakers each make 'micro-lots' of wines for the auction in very limited quantities (as few as 60, but never more than 240 bottles at a time).  Each winery's offering under the Willamette brand is truly a 'one-of-a-kind' 'best of the best' wine that can never be found elsewhere. Winemakers select their top fruit to put in the auction lot – it's like the reserve of the reserve…

We are huge fans of winemakers Rajat Parr and Sashi Moorman, and I was thrilled to have the winning bid on this lot from Evening Land because it is an elegant wine of tremendous depth and complexity. Rajat and Sashi chose the best barrel from the micro-cuvées from the acclaimed Seven Sisters vineyard, a vineyard which Harvey Steiman of Wine Spectator described as ‘one of Oregon’s best.’ Given that 2014 was such a spectacular vintage in Oregon, and this is the top selection from a top site, this is truly a collector’s item!” – Glen Knight, Wine House

Critical praise for the 2014 vintage: “Two thousand fourteen heralds what by all indications will be an unprecedented run of three exceptional vintages for Oregon Pinot Noir. Now that I’ve had the chance to taste finished 2014s from most of the best producers, I can say with confidence that this is the strongest and most consistently pleasurable vintage, overall, that I’ve tasted in my 31 years of following Oregon Pinot Noir.” – Josh Raynolds, Vinous

WINE DESCRIPTION

This is an inaugural bottling from the oldest vines on Seven Springs Estate. These low yielding, own rooted old vines produce the most intense and pure expression of Pinot noir on our property. We chose to vinify this field-selection separately with 100% whole bunches. The wine was made completely naturally and bottled after 16 months of aging, in 100% new French oak barrels.

Seven Springs Vineyard, first planted in 1983, has produced some of the finest grapes grown in the United States and was selected as one of the Top 10 Vineyards in America by Food and Wine Magazine. Situated in the northeastern Eola-Amity Hills, Seven Springs Vineyard is dry-farmed, LIVE certified and is farmed using organic, Biodynamic practices. The Pacific Ocean winds channel thru a wind gap in the coast range and circle the Eola-Amity Hills. This, combined with the shallow volcanic soils, an eastern exposure and old-vine plantings, enrich the wines with a unique expression that we find elegant, layered, and distinctive. Rajat Parr and Sashi Moorman explore the vineyards potential by isolating distinct blocks and experiment with micro-cuvées in the heart of the Seven Springs hillside.
