CHÂTEAU MONTROSE: THE JEWEL OF NORTHERN MÉDOC

With all of the chaos in the world this year, the Bordelais did something amazing this spring! They were absolutely on point and handled the 2019 vintage Bordeaux campaign brilliantly. To start, they were blessed by Mother Nature with a fantastic vintage and instead of hitting us with elevated prices because the vintage was so great, they offered their incredible wines at insanely fair prices (some even called them low). I like to call it a gift to us wine enthusiasts but, really, they knew there was uncertainty in the marketplace and they wanted to spark interest. And that they did! The 2019 Bordeaux futures campaign is off to a tremendous start... the likes of which I haven’t seen since the 2010 vintage. Please be on the lookout for our periodic 2019 Bordeaux futures offers on our website and in emails.

We have quite a few offers on the website, but I'd like to highlight two outstanding wines from the jewel of the Médoc: Château Montrose.  Their ‘grand vin,’ the 98 point 2019 Château Montrose St Estèphe is described as a ‘masterclass in the flavors and aromatics that you expect in a great Médoc wine ’ and thesir stunning second wine, the 94 point 2019 La Dame de Montrose St Estèphe is absolutely one to look out for.’  Both wines from Montrose are a credit to a great vintage from an exceptional producer!” Jim Knight, The Wine House

These wines are due to arrive fall of 2022
2019 Château Montrose St Estèphe (Pre-Arrival, ETA Fall 2022)
98 Points Decanter
$133.99
98 Points:Oh this is good, it steals up on you with real depth of flavor, stately and concentrated in a way that reminds me of a 1996 or a 2016. Extremely measured, very clear that this is going to age effortlessly, it is extremely discreet and yet packed with persistent flavors. A masterclass in the flavors and aromatics that you expect in a great Médoc wine - slate, crushed stones, savory blackcurrant, liquorice, hints of smoke and cold ash. After five minutes in the glass the sweeter berry fruit comes out, and the whole thing is sappy and mouthwatering, and makes you smile. 12% press wine, 3.77pH. A yield of 47hl/ha. 60% new oak. 1% Petit Verdot completes the blend. Drinking Window 2029 – 2050” – Jane Anson, Decanter (June 2020)
2019 La Dame de Montrose St Estèphe (Pre-Arrival, ETA Fall 2022)
94 Points Decanter
$38.99
94 Points: “The Merlots were so good this year that most have gone into the first wine, giving this a higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon than usual and making it a serious Dame de Montrose, with clear ageing potential. Elegant and balanced, with purity and juicy black fruits. It has that savoury Cabernet quality which is very Médocain, this is absolutely one to look out for, packed with estate signature. 30% new oak. 43% of total production. 4% Petit Verdot completes the blend. Lovely new label here also, with rose gold roses across it. Drinking Window 2025 – 2040” - Jane Anson, Decanter (June 2020)
