TWO EXCLUSIVE WINES FROM NAPA'S EPIC 2013 VINTAGE

"To strongly reiterate, 2013 for many wineries in Napa and Sonoma has produced the finest wines I have tasted in 37 years."
– Robert Parker of the Wine Advocate

"Every year, my father and I travel to Napa Valley for the Premiere Napa Valley (PNV) wine auction.  PNV is one of the rarest wine brands in the world – the region's top winemakers each make 'micro-lots' of wines for the auction in very limited quantities (as few as 60, but never more than 240 bottles at a time).  Each winery's offering under the PNV brand is truly a 'one-of-a-kind' 'best of the best' wine that can never be found elsewhere. Winemakers select their top fruit to put in the PNV lot – it's like the reserve of the reserve…

We bought these two wines based on the barrel sample we tasted, and knowing that 2013 was an outstanding vintage in the region. Now that they are bottled, the wines are both knockouts – rich and concentrated – it truly shows the distinctive nature of the hillside fruit. Joseph Phelps winery and Pride winery are two of the premier producers of Cabernet over the past 30+ years! We are thrilled to be able to offer these two incredible limited edition Cabernets today!"– Glen Knight, Wine House
2013 Joseph Phelps Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
'Backus Vineyard'
Oakville Premiere Auction PNV Lot 111

$849.99
2 or More: Only $499.99

Winery Notes:
Unique blend of select lots from the Joseph Phelps Backus Vineyard in eastern Oakville
94% Cabernet Sauvignon from the steeply sloped South Block and vines surrounding the smokehouse
6% Malbec from the Plateau Block, some 500 feet above the valley floor
Aged 24 months in a new Taransaud 5 French oak barrel

The Joseph Phelps Premiere Napa Valley 2015 lot was created from our Backus Vineyard, located on the eastern hillsides of the Oakville appellation, home to one of the most coveted grape growing regions in Napa Valley. Joseph Phelps has been the sole producer of Cabernet Sauvignon from this location, with its distinctive red pigmented volcanic soils, since the 1977 vintage. The Cabernet Sauvignon blocks selected for this wine came from both the steeply sloped, tightly spaced South block as well as those vines planted around the property's iconic smokehouse, known as the North block. The addition of 6% Malbec, grown along a rocky plateau some 500 feet above the valley floor, completes this exclusive blend. The wine will continue aging in a new Taransaud 5 French oak barrel for twenty-four months before bottling. The 2013 vintage highlights classic Oakville black fruit and graphite aromatics with powerful, yet balanced, tannins. Layer upon layer of complexity can be found throughout the lingering finish. Cherish this wine for decades to come.

94-96+ Points Robert Parker (barrel tasting of standard release): "The Cabernet Sauvignon Backus is their single-vineyard wine made on the lower hillsides of the Vaca Mountains at the Oakville crossroads. In 2013, the low yields from this site produced less than half of what was made in 2012. The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Backus is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest equal parts Malbec and Petit Verdot. This wine is full-bodied, heady, intense and showing more of the ferocious extract and tannin one expects from this site, an inky purple color, and notes of blackberries, cassis, earth and graphite. It should turn out to be a phenomenal wine, but will require considerable patience from its buyers, needing a good 5-7 years of bottle age, with the potential to age well for 30 to 40+ years." – Robert Parker, October 2015
2013 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
Premiere Napa Auction PNV Lot 220

$589.99
2 or More Only $349.99
Winery Notes:
100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from two estate vineyard blocks

- From a near-perfect vintage, this wine is of intensely concentrated flavor and massive structure
- Estate grapes grown on the south-facing slopes of our Spring Mountain vineyard at 2,100 feet
- Aged in French oak barrels for 20 months, with additional three months bottle aging prior to release

Winemaker Sally Johnson crafted just five cases of this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon for Premiere Napa Valley 2015 from the two richest components of our Vintner Select and Reserve Cabernet Sauvignons. Rock Arch, the oldest vineyard on the estate, makes up 87% of the blend, contributing an intense, inky wine with massive structure. Carolyn's Vineyard, with its floral nuances and luscious texture, provides the final 13% and adds sophistication and balance to the final cuvée.

Riding the crest of the Mayacamas Mountain Range at an elevation of 2,100 feet, the 235 acre property which is now home to Pride Mountain Vineyards is bisected by the Napa/Sonoma county line. While in 1890 one winery served the entire mountain community, in 1990 government regulations required that Pride Mountain Vineyards have two separate facilities, one in Napa County and one in Sonoma County, with the division down the center of the crush pad. Wines produced here now are designated Napa Valley, Sonoma County or with percentages of both, supporting the tag line, "One Ranch ~ Two Counties."
