“A ROCKSTAR 2012 VINTAGE FOR BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO”
– James Suckling

“James Suckling describes the 2012 Brunello vintage as a ‘Rockstar’ vintage, and we can’t wait to get them in! Our forth offer includes one of our top-selling producers, Casanova di Neri that never disappoints, as well as La Serena for under $50. Brunello is back with a vengeance!” – Jim Knight, Wine House

Fans of Brunello di Montalcino are in for a treat with the 2012 vintage. I tasted about 100 wines in October in a blind tasting in Tuscany and was impressed with their beautiful aromas, vibrant fruit, lively acidity, and ultra-fine tannins. These sangioveses are much more precise and finer than the bolder and riper 2011s. They have more in common with the legendary 2010 vintage and are most like the 2004s, a harmonious and gorgeous year for Brunellos.”  – James Suckling, November 2016

“Dark and deep in appearance, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino bears many of the hallmark characteristics of the vintage. Sangiovese produced smaller berries and thicker color extraction in this vintage. This Brunello does indeed show more muscle and brawn, but it does so with an impeccable sense of balance and persistence. I cannot but admire this achievement. The quality of fruit is succulent and rich, and there are many pretty aromas of dark cherry, pressed blackberry, underbrush, cola and licorice to earn your admiration. Its textural fortitude is equally admirable.” –Monica Larner, Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate, February 2017

“So much crushed dark fruit such as raspberries and blueberries. Hints of sandalwood, too. Full-bodied, chewy and powerful with ripe tannins and a flavorful finish. Just a hint of lemon rind. Drink in 2018.” –James Suckling, November 2016

“Effusive aromas and flavors of raspberry, cherry, floral, mineral and tobacco are at the center of this linear, vibrant red. Well structured, this offers terrific length on the sinewy finish. Best from 2020 through 2035.” —Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, February 2017

“Casanova di Neri is one of the shining stars of Montalcino. Each successive vintage released brings us renewed understanding of the focus and the dedication demonstrated by the father and son team that operates this estate. The winemaking style is impeccable and elaborate. There's a higher degree of texture and richness on display, and this is not often the case with Sangiovese. The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino opens to thick layers of dark fruit, mocha, spice, leather, cigar box and pipe tobacco. A distant note of dried fruit or blackberry confit adds softness and sweetness. Give this wine a few more years to flesh out and integrate.” –Monica Larner, Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate, February 2017

“The Casanova di Neri 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is a beautiful wine that recalls many of the stunning characteristics found in its high-scoring predecessor. I gave a perfect 100 points to the 2010 edition of this same wine. This expression, made two years later, continues in that tradition of excellence. The quality of fruit is profound and intense. The bouquet offers black cherry, spice, leather, balsam herb, cola and licorice. The complexity is absolutely impressive. The mouthfeel, however, is slightly thinner. The classic 2010 vintage is remembered for its twofold punch of elegance and power. Alternatively, the 2012 vintage shows aromatic intensity and less persistence on the finish, generally speaking. Having said that, this remains one Bellissimo Brunello.” –Monica Larner, Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate, February 2017

“Precise balance sets the stage for cherry, black currant, violet and tobacco flavors in this smooth, intense red. The tannins are present yet well-integrated and this persists with echoes of fruit and tobacco. Reveals an element of spice on the aftertaste. Best from 2020 through 2035.” —Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, February 2017
